Thematic Unit Step 3: Thematic Unit Plan Part I: Title:A Time Like No Other: Boom & Bust, Roaring 20’s, Great Depression and the New Deal Introduction: This is a 2-3 week unit of study that I will teach to my 8th grade social studies class at Ligon Middle School. I teach four periods a day, and roughly in every class I have 25 students. My classes are very diverse where the academic ability also ranges. Several of my students have 504 plans and IEP’s. Therefore I have designed this unit so that I will be able to accommodate all of my students’ needs. I have differentiated lesson plans, and have made test accommodations for this unit.
Organizational Principle: I will introduce this unit the end of January, and it will last to the middle of February. I have designed this unit in historical and chronological order. This unit will be set up in a historical timeline, which will allow students to gather information in a systematic manner.
Primary Subject Matter Focus: Questions:
What affect did the Great Depression have on the American society?
How was the culture impacted during the 1920’s?
Goals: This unit introduces 8th grade students to several events from 1920’s to the 1940’s. Objectives:
SWBAT: Make inferences and connections to the Great Depression Era
SWBAT: Analyze historical sources
3. SWBAT: Form general impressions about life in the U.S in the 1920’s to 1930’s
